Our History

Babayan’s was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Levon Babayan in 1896, starting out selling Persian and Oriental area rugs in downtown Toronto at 103 Yonge Street. We were one of the first promoters of Persian and Oriental rugs in Canada.

Shortly after, Babayan’s began to clean area rugs, though the cleaning process at the time was significantly different. The process incorporated the use of a fire hose as their main water source. Through the years our focus shifted to solely cleaning area rugs.

In 1957, we moved into our current home where we invested $200,000 installing our custom-made carpet cleaning machine, to build the same machine today with the exact automated setup would cost over $1,000,000. It has become the leading technology in the industry. For over 120 years, we continue to offer the same great quality and support our customers have become accustomed to.

This is our commercial from the early 2000s, the Babayan’s area rug cleaning plant has undergone a major renovation since this video has been made, but this area rug cleaning video is part of our history.

2018: Babayans was purchased by LoveYourRug and the area rug cleaning facility went through a major renovation. The place was refurbished, new rug washing equipment was installed and a new customer service area was installed with a one million dollar investment into the building. You can see the changes in our new process video.
